چکیده

2014 Experimental measurements are reported of the deswelling process in presence of an external applied pressure of polyacrylamide gels at theta conditions. Analysis of the profile of the concentration gradient enables the swelling pressure as a function of concentration to be deduced as well as the collective diffusion coefficient D. To obtain an explicit expression for D, the polymer-solvent friction constant f is assumed to vary with the concentration as cm, where m is an adjustable parameter. It is found that the best fit is obtained for m = 2.0, in accordance with scaling theory for semi-dilute theta solutions. J. Physique 45 (1984) 309-314 FTVRIER 1984,

Dynamic light scattering from gels in a poor solvent

2014 Photon correlation spectroscopy measurements are reported of the collective motion diffusion coefficient Dc and the longitudinal elastic modulus Egel of polyacrylamide gels in the poor solvent region using a water : methanol (3 : 1 by volume) mixture as solvent. It is shown that the presence of cross-links hinders the movement of polymer self-entanglements, which are characteristic of 03B8...

Translational and collective Diffusion in semi-dilute gels

2014 A comparison is made between measurements of the translational and collective diffusion constants in polyacrylamide-water gels. We conclude that : a) the solvent viscosity does not depend on polymer concentration, and b) scaling exponents can be deduced from dynamic light scattering measurements only after correction for solvent displacement and residual hydrodynamic interactions. Nonequilibrium effects in diffusion of interacting particles on vicinal surfaces.

We study the influence of nonequilibrium conditions on the collective diffusion of interacting particles on vicinal surfaces. To this end, we perform Monte Carlo simulations of a lattice-gas model of an ideal stepped surface, where adatoms have nearest-neighbor attractive or repulsive interactions. Applying the Boltzmann-Matano method to spreading density profiles of the adatoms allows the defi...

Influence of Dimethyl Sulfoxide as a Penetration Enhancer of Piroxicam Gel Through Biological Skin

Piroxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent which has an extensive use in rheumatic disorders. Since its skin penetration is still a subject for research, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of dimethyl sulfoxide on percutaneous penetration of piroxicam gel formulation through skin. In this study, as a model, two types of 0.5% piroxicam new gels, so called red and gr...

Mapping the local osmotic modulus of polymer gels.

Polymer gels undergo volume phase transition in a thermodynamically poor solvent as a result of changes in molecular interactions. The osmotic pressure of gels, both synthetic and biological in nature, induces swelling and imparts the materials with the capacity to resist compressive loads. We have investigated the mechanical and swelling properties of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) gels brought int...
